.SMF is used for models. You cannot make new models, but you can make new skins for existing models. Use a hex editor to find the word "SDVS" in a model file. Delete the first four bytes following SDVS and then highlight the entire file from SDVS onwards. Copy the selection, highlight the whole file this time and paste. Then you have to save the edited file as a .shadvs file (give it a name like "test.shadvs") and you can use the txt2shadvs and shadvs2txt programs to add new skins. Then you add four extra bytes after SDVS, select the contents of the entire file, go back to the .SMF file you want to edit, highlight the entire file from SDVS onwards and paste.

.shadvs files can be edited with shadvs2txt and txt2shadvs programs. Unlike .SMF models, you don't have to delete any bytes before using them. Drag the .shadvs onto "shadvsKi.exe" to create the text version of it. Then in the text file, make sure the numbers at the start of it are like this:

"100
0"

Then you can edit the file and then drag it onto "shadvsBe.exe" to overwrite the original .shadvs file.

.SWD is the core map file, and can only be viewed with a hex editor. This is the trickiest part of modding the game. You have to know which bytes to edit and which goes where.

Shadvs2txt and txt2shadvs have free access? Where can I download? And how do they differ from each other?

I think they can now be available on the MoTmod site, but the link seems to be down now. Used to be you only need to ask one of the makers, hykao, via PM on the 1C forums so he can email you the programs.

shadvsKi.exe is the program you need to convert your shadvs file to text, and shadvsBe.exe is the shadvs2txt program.
